Overview

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Finance is responsible for delivering high-quality financial leadership across an assigned portfolio of hotels. This executive role provides strategic guidance, direction, and hands-on support to ensure the financial integrity, compliance, and profitability of each property. The role serves as a key business partner to Highgate’s operations teams and senior leadership, ensuring timely delivery of accurate and relevant financial information to support data-driven decision-making.

 

The role reports to the EVP of Finance and ensures robust internal controls are in place and function effectively to mitigate risk, maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and uphold adherence to Highgate’s internal policies and procedures. This includes identifying potential financial or operational risks and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams—including Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Human Resources—to proactively address and resolve issues. Additionally, this leadership role acts as a financial steward for ownership groups and investors, ensuring transparency, accountability, and protection of assets. This role also plays a key part in talent development within the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring that strong financial leadership is present at every hotel in the portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and business partner to the operations teams, senior leadership, and ownership groups.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership to assigned hotel portfolio, supporting both corporate goals and property-level performance, with a strong emphasis on maximizing EBITDA and long-term asset value.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of financial statements, forecasts, budgets, and reports.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide insights to drive operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities early and develop strategies to mitigate risk and maximize value.
  • Oversee internal controls, financial audits, and compliance with all relevant regulations and accounting standards.
  • Partner with asset management teams to support owner relations, capital planning, and investment performance.
  • Perform ROI analysis on hotel renovations, labor strategies, and any other projects that may occur within your portfolio.
  • Support system improvements and integrations to streamline financial operations and reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on broader initiatives, including acquisitions, transitions, and new development projects.
  • Plan, perform, and present due diligence information in an opening, closing, or conversion environment including proration support, review, and signoff.
  • Manage and communicate cash flow related issues, which includes the accurate and timely preparation of cash flow statements, management of receivables, payables, cash balances, timely deposits, and other control mechanisms.
  • Ensure portfolio compliance on all regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, legal agreements, and the proper execution of all applicable taxes.
  • Monitor portfolio compliance in meeting required financial reporting deadlines including monthly forecasts, Financial Statements, and Budgets. Implement remediation strategies where needed.
  • Analyze financial data to advise operations teams through review of balance sheet audits, union liabilities, employee liabilities, and other liabilities that may have a material impact on our hotel owners.
  • Work with your portfolio to implement and audit all internal financial controls (including, but not limited to, purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, hotel assets, master keys, payroll, and employee records) and implement corrective measures to remedy any control gaps.
  • Lead and mentor a team of regional or property-level finance leaders, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Prepare and maintain a succession plan to allow coverage of Asst. Director of Finance, Director of Finance, and Area Directors of Finance in the event of a position vacancy or regional growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience in the hospitality industry.
  • Strong understanding of hotel operations, ownership structures, and investment performance metrics.
  • Proven ability to lead, influence, and collaborate across multifunctional teams.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities; comfortable engagement with C-level executives and ownership groups.
  • Experience with financial systems such as Oracle, M3, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive financial strategy and lead change in complex environments.
  • Strong leadership presence with a hands-on, results-oriented approach.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and hospitality financial reporting standards.
