Overview

The Area Vice President of Sales & Marketing is responsible for leading and executing top-line revenue strategies across a portfolio of Highgate-managed hotels in the New York region. This role plays a critical leadership function in driving commercial performance, providing strategic direction to property-level Directors of Sales & Marketing, and ensuring alignment with overall company objectives. Key responsibilities include monitoring market trends, analyzing competitive positioning, and identifying opportunities for market share growth. This newly created additional position reports directly to the VP of Sales & Marketing, with a dotted-line relationship to the SVP of Operations – New York and serves as the senior sales & marketing leader for the assigned portfolio. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic revenue maximization plans across all market segments and distribution channels in lockstep with commercial partners to drive market share growth.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and motivation to property-level sales teams to ensure performance excellence and goal achievement.
  • Analyze competitive landscapes and sub-regional dynamics to identify opportunities and anticipate market shifts.
  • Review and evaluate group pace, positioning, and other key sales performance metrics across both group and transient segments.
  • Design sales team deployment strategies, establish measurable goals, and implement effective sales incentive programs.
  • Lead key account management initiatives to deepen client relationships and drive repeat business.
  • Engage in client-facing opportunities that help position Highgate’s portfolio for success in greater awareness, new lead generation and/or closure of revenue generating opportunities.
  • Oversee the development of annual marketing plans and manage associated expense budgets to ensure ROI and brand alignment.
  • Coordinate sales activity planning, travel scheduling, and resource management for optimal productivity.
  • Interpret and analyze industry and internal performance data (e.g., STR, Hotelligence 360, financial reports) to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Understanding/evaluating STR, Hotelligence 360 & financial reports/data.
  • Engage in owner relations for assigned portfolio of hotels to positively support commercial perspective and property teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior or above-property sales leadership role.
  • Proven experience in regional or multi-unit sales oversight within the hospitality industry.
  • Demonstrated success as a Director of Sales & Marketing in major metropolitan hotel markets.
  • Experience working directly with ownership groups and asset management teams.
  • Strong collaboration experience with revenue management teams to drive strategic goals.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all market segments and distribution channels, with the ability to develop and execute tailored strategic plans for each.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence across various levels of an organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire teams of Directors of Sales & Marketing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
