This 474-room hotel is also ideal for groups and weddings, with 37,000 square feet of meeting space, 31 suites, and a stunning garden terrace perfect for "I Dos". And with the Westin's central location, guests are within walking distance of the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Catalina Express, and are just two miles from the Queen Mary. 

Overview

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for handling and overseeing the procurement of goods and services through appropriate bidding processes to achieve optimum price value while maintaining superior quality consistent with Highgate Hotel’s established control policies and procedures. The Purchasing Manager also maintains and organizes the hotel’s storage facilities, ensures proper distribution, and assists in implementation of key controls associated with the procurement and accounting of goods and services.

Responsibilities

    • Keep appropriate par stock on all inventories goods. Notify Controller of any variances or deviation in par stock.
    • Ensure that all purchases, requisitions, etc. have proper approvals and all orders are place and received in accordance with Highgate Hotel’s policies and procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local food and beverage storage laws, regulations and codes.
    • Oversee and assist in unloading, receiving, sorting, stocking, securing, and distributing goods.
    • Participate in the inventory process (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
    • Secure competitive bids and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
    • Ensure inventory pricing reflects most current information.
    • Review banquet event orders and consult with appropriate management for special requirements.
    • Interview, train, supervise and develop Purchasing and/or Receiving staff, including coaching, counseling and discipline.
    • Track all price changes.
    • Keep supervisor aware of any unusual occurrences and significant deviations from standards, policies and procedures.

Monitor and prepare financial reports in accordance with Highgate Hotel’s requirements meeting various due dates and deadlines

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma with mathematical emphasis required.
  • College courses in an associated field and previous supervisory responsibilities preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of progressive hospitality purchasing experience.
  • The ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of safe food handling standards and beverage management.
  • Must be proficient in Windows, Company approved spreadsheets and word processing.

 

Physical requirements:

  • Long hours sometimes required.
  • Very heavy work, exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
